Today, 121 years ago, Topsy was poisoned and electrocuted to death at Coney Island, New York. The young female, wild-caught Asian elephant was killed in front of a crowd of more than 1,000 people at Luna Park, one of America’s first theme parks.
Today, I launched a new website and published a new booklet called Meeting Topsy. These initiatives are in support of the biography I’m presently researching and writing about Topsy that will answer the following questions:
Why kill an elephant?
Why film her electrocution?
What would have happened to Topsy if she were alive today?
