This is the true story of Topsy, a baby elephant captured in 1875 in Southeast Asia and trafficked to the United States to perform in a travelling circus. The filmed spectacle of her cruel death by public electrocution on Coney Island, New York, in 1903 still resonates.

I want to give Topsy more than a biography: I want to give a voice to her thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and ask what would happen if she were alive today. What can we learn from Topsy’s tragic history regarding our current attitudes of compassion and respect for all animals?
