This book will be a game changer for elephants. And hopefully humans. Kim has been chipping away at the truthful story for years. It is difficult to get factual, biographical information about individual animals. Especially those who are deceased. As the author of one of the first biographies of an animal (Nim Chimpsky) I know how hard this research can be. We have to tease out the truth--and fact check. Stallwood is writing an important book!
Thank you for this and your earlier kind and supportive comments about Topsy. They're very much appreciated. You're quite correct to point out your excellent book, Nim Chimpsky. I consider it a pioneering animal biography and one that inspired me to write Topsy's biography. I can only hope I will live up to your high standards!
I look forward to the time when there will be shelves full of animal biographies. Not so long ago, I tried to join "Bio," a writers club for authors who have written biographies, and I was turned down. Animals did not count! I wonder if that would happen today. Probably.
